Sustainability and environmental responsibility

Abeco strives to create sustainable and high-quality products, while actively working to minimise our waste, optimise energy consumption and manage resources responsibly.

Our sustainability work is integrated into every stage of the business – from production to distribution. We take a holistic approach to sustainability, which includes everything from responsible material handling to energy efficiency and waste reduction. Through our daily work, we strive to integrate various aspects of sustainability into every part of our operations, which for us entails a focus on long-term environmental, economic and social sustainability.

These certifications ensure that our materials are traceable and sustainable, and that we comply with current formal requirements to maintain the stated standards. The certifications also guarantee that our products come from responsibly managed forests.

Efficient energy consumption and recovery

Our production is powered largely by renewable energy. We use sawdust from our production to heat our premises, and LED lighting, which saves us 28,000 kWh per year. The residual products we do not use are compressed into briquettes, which are sold to our customers or sent to heating plants for further use. In recent years, we have managed to halve the amount of combustible waste.

By recycling materials and reducing transport distances, we reduce both our environmental impact and our costs.

Circular economy

At abeco, we implement circular economy principles in our day-to-day operations. By reusing plastic strapping and packaging from incoming deliveries for our own products, we reduce waste and resource consumption. In addition, chemicals, batteries and technical products are recycled separately to ensure safe handling.

The circular economy is at the heart of our long-term business strategy. As a result of optimising our resource use, and reusing and recycling, we reduce our waste and create value from materials that would otherwise have been discarded. We see it as our duty to minimise our environmental impact and create as sustainable a manufacturing process as possible.
